As 2024 comes to a close, we at Sale Ranch Animal Sanctuary are honored to reflect on the year’s milestones. Through the unwavering support of our community, we’ve continued to extend kindness, care, and hope to farm animals and people in need.
Welcoming New Residents
This year, we opened our hearts and sanctuary to four remarkable souls whose stories remind us why our work is so vital:
- Ruthie Bee: At just three pounds, Ruthie Bee arrived at our sanctuary fighting for her life. Born unable to stand or nurse, her organs began to fail, and her future looked bleak. Kindness stepped in when the wife of the farmhand called us for help. With urgent veterinary care and round-the-clock love, Ruthie began a miraculous recovery. Within days, she stood for the first time, learning to walk and bringing hope to everyone who met her.
- Sully: One of four farm piglets rescued from a local shelter in collaboration with two other sanctuaries, Sully was saved from a life of exploitation. Although we lost her in November following a surgery meant to secure a healthier future, Sully’s legacy lives on as a reminder of the urgent need for sanctuary and care for farm animals everywhere.
- CeCe: A spirited goat who endured unimaginable suffering. CeCe was brutally attacked by dogs and left with severe wounds, unable to stand or hold herself up for weeks. Despite receiving constant medical care and attention at Sale Ranch, her injuries were too severe, and we healed her to heaven as the ultimate act of compassion. CeCe’s spirit and bravery continue to inspire us.
- Boots: This once-skittish cat was dumped at Sale Ranch and discovered under Jen’s back deck. After days of patience and gentle coaxing, Boots walked into Jen’s arms. Now a cuddly and gentle soul, Boots has made himself at home in the safety of the ranch, enjoying the love and care he deserves.
Cultivating Sustainability and Feeding Our Community
- 2,000+ pounds of organic produce were grown in our regenerative gardens, nourishing our residents and the planet.
- 500+ pounds of produce were donated to food-insecure families, our volunteers, and local vendors who support the sanctuary.
- 292 plant-based meals were served at farm-to-table events, open ranch days, and our annual gala, inspiring compassionate choices in our community.
Preventing Waste and Supporting Other Sanctuaries
In partnership with Temecula Mama, we collected and distributed over 5,000 pounds of uncarved and unpainted pumpkins to farm sanctuaries and private farm pet homes across Southern California. This effort not only provided nutritious food for animals in need but also diverted waste from landfills.
Supporting Ethical Education with LEAP
This year, we partnered with Leaders for Ethics, Animals, and the Planet (LEAP) and welcomed our first class of six students. Inspired by former 4H and FFA participants, LEAP offers a compassionate alternative for young leaders to engage with farm animals while learning ethical and sustainable practices. We are proud to support this innovative program and the next generation of compassionate changemakers.
Why It Matters
Every rescue, every pound of produce, every pumpkin saved, and every student inspired reflects a larger vision: a kinder, more sustainable world. These accomplishments are only possible because of you—our compassionate supporters who believe in the power of kindness.
Thank you for making 2024 a year of transformation. Together, we’re changing lives and creating a future where kindness truly lives.
