Willow’s Story: Navigating a Mysterious Injury on the Ranch

Posted on August 14, 2023

Within the loving embrace of our ranch lies Willow, a beautiful sheep and cherished member of our family. Her recent adventure is a story filled with unexpected turns, resilience, and the warmth of a community coming together.

A Startling Discovery

As the barns were coming to life late last week, Jen noticed something alarming with Willow’s right hind leg. Her hoof was hanging oddly, and Jen immediately recognized she needed help. Willow had suffered a complete oblique fracture (a break in the bone where the crack runs diagonally) in her fetlock (ankle area). The concern was immediate and intense.

Immediate Action

Our esteemed medical advisor, Dr. Martin, rushed to Willow’s aid. After x-raying her leg, she confirmed a complete break but miraculously found Willow in no pain, thanks to decreased nerve function in her hind end. What a blessing! Dr. Martin realigned and cast the fracture right on the ranch.

The Mystery Unfolds

The cause of Willow’s fracture remains a perplexing mystery. Trauma seems unlikely, and how the injury occurred leaves us scratching our heads. Could it be an underlying bone density issue? We’re committed to closely monitoring Willow’s recovery to determine the underlying cause, ensuring her ongoing well-being.

Healing with a Smile

Willow’s spirit shines brightly. She’ll wear a cast for eight weeks, but she’s not slowing down. After a delightful late lunch snack, she rested comfortably, her courage and cheerfulness inspiring us all.

A Community of Care

We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated medical team, especially Dr. Martin, for their swift and professional response. Their expertise transformed a potentially terrifying ordeal into a calm and successful recovery.

Willow’s story transcends her brave response to a sudden challenge; it embodies the spirit of a community coming together, the bonds we share with our animal family, and the love that fuels triumphs over trials.

Her healing journey has begun, but Willow isn’t alone. She’s part of a family that includes you, one that values every single soul on our ranch.

Stay connected to Willow’s progress on our Facebook, Instagram, and Patreon pages. Your support fuels our mission and brightens the lives of our dear residents like Willow. Thank you for being with us!
