Rising to the Challenge: Protecting Farm Animals from Soaring Summer Temperatures

Posted on August 14, 2023

Summer is a time of joy, growth, and sunshine. But it’s also becoming a time of unprecedented heat. Temperatures are on the rise globally, and this phenomenon is particularly acute in places like Southern California. While we humans may find various ways to escape the sweltering heat, farm animals often don’t have that luxury. The rising temperatures are not only uncomfortable but can pose serious health risks to these gentle creatures.

At our ranch, we’ve seen firsthand the distressing effects that extreme heat can have on our residents. We knew we had to act. Thus, our journey began to upgrade our four large barns with insulation and custom windows to increase airflow, successfully dropping temperatures inside these structures by 10-15 degrees. Our feathered friends, the chickens, and turkeys, were not forgotten, as we’ve enhanced their barns with extended roofs, providing more shade and cooler spaces.

These upgrades represent more than a response to climate change; they stand as a testament to our unwavering belief that farmed animals are worthy of high-level care, respect, and love. Every animal on our ranch is a beautiful survivor, and your generosity makes their quality of life possible.

But the challenge continues, and so must our efforts. The support for this project and our day-to-day costs remains vital, and we are profoundly thankful for all who have helped us so far.
