The Story of Sale Ranch: Where Kindness Grows

Posted on September 29, 2023
Meet Jen Sale

Jen Sale, who has nurtured a deep love for animals since childhood, began her journey of compassion with her horse Patches, learning early lessons of loyalty and care.

Sale Ranch Begins

On January 12, 2011, Jen and Dave started with a vision and rescued their first horse, Chance, who still calls Sale Ranch home today. However, with the arrival of goats Kid Rock and Clover in 2014, their mission broadened, giving birth to Sale Ranch Animal Sanctuary, a protective haven for all farm animals.

Jen’s Healing Hands

Using her medical expertise, Jen extends specialized care to the animals, promoting health and well-being while minimizing vet expenses. She offers a supportive haven to those frightened, injured, or needing love and care.

A Garden of Love

With a passion for gardening, Jen has cultivated a flourishing garden at Sale Ranch. This bountiful space provides daily fresh produce for the animals, is the star during Seasonal Suppers events, and supports the community through donations to local food banks. Contributing to a lower carbon footprint, the garden symbolizes sustainability and care for the land.

More Than Just Jen

Starting as Jen’s dream, Sale Ranch has evolved to embody the commitment and love of up to 60 volunteers and staff members, collectively safeguarding and caring for approximately 90 animals that call the ranch home. In this space, Jen has seeded a community where kindness is the language and service is the ethos.

Working Every Day

Every day at Sale Ranch is bustling with efforts to provide a sanctuary for animals. With grand dreams in their hearts, the team envisions expanding the Ranch further. They aim to acquire more land for rotational pastures for spent dairy cows. Additionally, plans are underway to establish an educational center. This center will not only be an investment in the community. Still, it will also serve as a platform to share and propagate the noble mission and values of Sale Ranch, further inspiring and engaging with the broader community.

Connecting with Others

While Sale Ranch is a forever sanctuary for its healed and healthy animal residents, there’s also significant work happening behind the scenes. The team at Sale Ranch actively networks with other sanctuaries and carefully vetted private homes to facilitate the placement of farm animals in need. This diligent backstage effort has ensured the safety and well-being of over 700 animals to date, helping them find secure, caring environments where they can thrive and live in peace and comfort.

Speaking for Animals

Jen Sale is not just the heart of Sale Ranch; she is also a recognized leader and mentor in the farm sanctuary community. Her experience and wisdom have been invaluable to founders of newly established sanctuaries, guiding them through the intricacies of creating and managing safe animal havens. As a respected speaker at various vegan and animal advocacy events throughout Southern California and a voice featured in regional and sanctuary-specific publications, Jen tirelessly shares her knowledge and passion. Her mission goes beyond the Ranch: she aims to change hearts and minds, promoting a culture of kindness, empathy, and respect for all living beings.

You Can Support Sale Ranch Through Events

Stay connected with all the delightful happenings at Sale Ranch by subscribing to their monthly newsletter, following them on Facebook and Instagram, or frequently checking their official website. Tickets for their much-anticipated events usually become available 3-4 weeks in advance and tend to sell out quickly due to high demand. Each event offers a unique, enchanting experience that supports the sanctuary’s noble cause. If you find yourself unable to attend these events, worry not! Sale Ranch offers private, docent-led tours that can be scheduled at your convenience. These tours provide a more personalized, intimate glimpse into the daily miracles unfolding at the Ranch, allowing you to engage with the sanctuary’s mission on a deeper level. For scheduling and more information, don’t hesitate to visit their website.

In Short

Sale Ranch, born from Jen’s vision, has blossomed into a community-centric haven, championing animal advocacy as its core mission because that’s the heart of what they do. The Ranch is not just a safe retreat for animals but also a dynamic advocate for their rights, tirelessly working to instill empathy and compassion for all living beings in the broader community. More than providing refuge, it combines giving back and community building. Through sustainable practices like nurturing a regenerative garden, the Ranch actively reduces its carbon footprint, cherishing and healing the soil and Earth. This sanctified place isn’t just about safety and love for animals but also about fostering community bonds, supporting local residents, and contributing positively to environmental well-being, thus weaving a tapestry of boundless kindness, advocacy, and sustainable living.
