Little Things, Big Joy: 5 Tiny Moments That Lit Up the Ranch This Month

Posted on July 13, 2025

Big miracles get all the glory—but at Sale Ranch, it’s the little moments that remind us what sanctuary really means.

Moments of peace. Of play. Of connection. Of comfort.

This month, we’re celebrating five small-but-mighty moments that made us smile—and we hope they’ll do the same for you. Whether it’s chickens sharing a snack or friends gathered around a pizza oven, these moments carry the heartbeat of everything we stand for.

Tinkerbell and Jessie, two rescued chickens at Sale Ranch, enjoy a shared snack, highlighting their close bond and joyful sanctuary life.🐥 1. Sanctuary Life Moment: Snack Time Is Better With Your Bestie

Jessie and Tinkerbell, two of our chicken residents, reminded us that food tastes better when shared with a friend.

In one of our favorite enrichment moments this month, they took turns pecking at a swinging corn-on-the-cob snack—perfectly in sync, side by side.

🐓 Did you know? Chickens form strong social bonds and often have preferred companions. These relationships help reduce stress and improve their overall well-being.

🐷 2. Piggy Spa Day: Hoof Trims + Cookie Bribes

It’s not glamorous—but hoof trim day is one of the most important routines at the ranch. And for our pig residents, it’s also one of the most pampered.

This month’s “piggy spa” featured gentle trims, soothing words, cool wallow dips, and cookie rewards for a job well done. These sessions may look simple, but they’re packed with care, patience, and respect.

💡 Why it matters: Without regular hoof care, pigs can develop painful posture and joint issues. Providing this support ensures they stay mobile, happy, and pain-free.

🐑 3. Lillybelle’s Peaceful Afternoon

Captured in a moment of perfect stillness, Lillybelle the lamb stood calmly in the summer breeze—safe, supported, and deeply loved.

Born with a physical disability and denied proper care in her early life, Lillybelle now enjoys the dignity and support she always deserved. Watching her take in the afternoon, surrounded by open skies and safe pastures, was a quiet kind of magic.

🌼 Why it matters: Healing isn’t just about medicine. It’s about safety, space, and the absence of fear—something every animal deserves.

🐖 4. Watermelon with the Porch GirlsMolly Mayhem, a rescued piglet at Sale Ranch, stands near an empty watermelon rind, the remains of a refreshing summer snack she clearly enjoyed.

What do you get when you mix a heatwave, one very excited piglet, and a few pup pals? The cutest porch party ever.

Molly Mayhem the piglet cooled off with her dog friends Evie and Pip Squeak over some juicy watermelon slices—and we’re pretty sure they’d all agree: it was a perfect summer afternoon.

🍉 Did you know? Watermelon is not just delicious—it’s hydrating and safe for many farm animals. A sweet way to beat the heat!

🍕 5. Love, Laughter & Pizza: Volunteer Appreciation Night

This month, we hosted a special Volunteer Appreciation Supper to honor the beautiful humans who make our work possible.

Over a dozen of our 50+ amazing volunteers gathered for a relaxed evening of wood-fired pizza, homegrown produce, and belly laughs shared under the open sky. There were tomato harvests, cozy chats, and the unmistakable joy of a community rooted in compassion.

💛 Why it matters: From mucking stalls to harvesting greens to offering quiet comfort, our volunteers pour love into this place. Celebrating them is just one small way to give back.

💬 We’d love to know…

Which of these moments made you smile the most?
Was it the chickens pecking in sync? Molly’s watermelon moment? Lillybelle’s quiet strength? Let us know in the comments—or share this post to spread the joy.

💛 Because kindness lives in the little things

At Sale Ranch, every hoof trim, every hug, every homegrown pizza shared is a reminder that love doesn’t always need to be loud to matter.

Sometimes, the smallest gestures change everything.
