Meet Cece the Brave Boar Goat: A Story of Resilience and Hope

Posted on June 22, 2024

Just over two weeks ago, Sale Ranch Animal Sanctuary welcomed a special new member to our family: Cece, a brave boar goat. Cece came to us in grave condition after being attacked by two dogs. Her front legs, ears, and eye were severely damaged, with her front legs suffering the most. Her previous owner did her best to help Cece, but the injuries were beyond what she could manage.

The Decision to Help

Our medical director, Dr. Martin, and founder Jen Sale, assessed Cece and knew immediately that Sale Ranch had to help. Despite the severity of her injuries, Cece showed a strong will to survive, and we couldn’t turn our backs on her.

A Tough Journey

Since arriving at Sale Ranch, Cece has undergone several major surgeries. She is making progress and showing signs of improvement every day. Cece is comfortable, has a great appetite, and is alert. She loves munching on fruits and greens from our garden, which is a positive sign of her recovery. Cece is fighting hard, and we are doing everything we can to support her on this tough journey.

Ongoing Treatment and Care

We have performed three debridement surgeries to remove dead tissue and fight infection. These surgeries are crucial to restoring blood flow and promoting new skin growth. Our focus is on healing her knees, known as carpi, where the damage is most severe.

To aid her recovery, we are using laser treatments to heal tissues, range of motion exercises four times a day, and time in a sling to help her regain mobility. Additionally, Cece is receiving blood work, antibiotics, and regular flushing of infections to ensure she has the best chance of recovery.

A Long Road Ahead

While Cece is showing remarkable strength and resilience, we still do not know how her journey will end. However, we remain hopeful that with continued care and support, Cece will regain some use of her legs and live a full, happy life here at Sale Ranch.

How You Can Help

Cece’s medical treatments are extensive and ongoing. If you would like to support Cece’s recovery and contribute to her medical expenses, please consider donating at saleranch.org/donate. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us provide the care Cece needs to continue her fight.

Thank you for your kindness and support. At Sale Ranch, we believe that “Kindness Lives Here,” and with your help, we can give Cece the second chance she deserves.
