Building Resilience: A Tale of Hay, Heart, and Sustainability

Posted on November 19, 2023

Another day, another project at Sale Ranch, where the well-being of our animal friends is our top priority. But this isn’t just any routine task – it’s a mission critical for the comfort and health of those we care for. Nestled in our facility is a vital structure, the hay barn, quietly playing a heroic role.

Housing over $7,500 worth of fresh, high-quality hay each month, this barn is more than just storage; it’s a lifeline for our residents. Daily, the grass from this barn nourishes our animals, ensuring their health and happiness. But as the relentless wheel of time turns, even the sturdiest structures feel the burden of years.

The challenge at hand? The upcoming rainy season and a predicted wet winter loom over us. We embarked on an urgent project to safeguard our hay supply from these natural elements – replacing the barn’s weather-beaten back wall.

Originally constructed nine years ago with upcycled materials, this wall has stood as a testament to our commitment to sustainability. But now, it was time for a change. Not just any change, but one aligned with our core values.

We’ve crafted a new back wall from sturdy plywood, ingeniously integrating the existing siding to create a seamless, robust barrier. This improvement isn’t merely a construction choice; it’s a statement of our unwavering dedication to our animals’ welfare.

Why emphasize sustainability in our approach? Two pivotal reasons guide us. Firstly, it’s our way of caring for the planet. Reusing and upcycling materials lessen our ecological footprint, contributing to a healthier Earth. Secondly, it’s about financial stewardship. Every dollar saved through sustainable practices is a dollar that can be directed toward the care of our animals.

Our commitment to sustainability continues after the barn. It’s woven into the fabric of everything we do at Sale Ranch. From the food we provide to our animals to how we manage our resources, we strive to make good choices for our planet and our residents.

As we forge ahead, tackling each challenge with determination and heart, we are reminded of the importance of community. Your support fuels our efforts, enabling us to continue making a difference in the lives of our animal residents. Every donation, every word of encouragement, and every volunteer hour contributes to the thriving ecosystem of Sale Ranch.

Our newly fortified hay barn stands not just as a shelter for hay but as a symbol of our resilience, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment to those in our care. It’s a reminder that every action, no matter how small, can significantly impact the world around us.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. We are building a brighter, more sustainable future for all our residents, two-legged and four-legged alike.
