Yesterday we celebrated Faith’s 4th birthday! 4 years ago yesterday, Jen carried her in her arms out of a slaughter auction and into the safety of SRAS’s care. Faith is one of our most difficult medical cases to date. We look at her everyday and give thanks for the miracle she is!
Faith was born for her mothers milk and as soon as she took her first breath of earth’s air she was stolen from her and immediately left at a livestock auction with afterbirth still on her coat. Unwanted by the industry who bred her, her fate was the same as males born into dairy. Babies are born without an immune system, so when they are placed in a pen with dead animals, feces, blood and numerous diseases their odds of survival are very slim. Faith’s lungs were underdeveloped, and she was exposed to so many illnesses in the auction pen that within hours of her birth she had a dangerously high fever which continued for weeks as she had numerous bacterial infections that tried to take her life DAILY.
Jen carried her in her arms at rescue and she spent the first few weeks living inside her house in a large shower area so we could sterilize the field every single day and where she received around the medical care while she fought to live. Every time we’d kick one life threatening infection another would pop up. Faith is an absolute miracle baby who beat all the odds and now she lives an amazing life full of love and joy with friends. She helps foster kids decompress, loves to cuddle our guests and continues to heal hearts and open minds to the reality behind the “make believe photos” from a good marketing campaign on ALL dairy product containers. Faith is one of the many medical miracles who call SRAS home. Happy 4th birthday pretty girl we love you so much!
